Rio de Janeiro, July 8 (V7N) — Brazilian top-flight club Botafogo has officially announced the appointment of David Ancelotti as the club’s new head coach, with a contract running through December 2026.
The 35-year-old is the son of renowned Italian manager Carlo Ancelotti, who recently assumed the role of head coach of the Brazilian national team. While David has spent most of his coaching career working under his father's tutelage, this marks his first independent managerial role.
David Ancelotti began his coaching journey in 2012, when his father was managing Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). At the time, David served as the club’s fitness coach. He continued in a similar role after Carlo moved to Real Madrid in 2013, later earning his UEFA 'A' license in 2016, which allowed him to take up formal coaching responsibilities.
Since then, David has served as an assistant coach to his father at Bayern Munich, Napoli, Everton, and most recently at Real Madrid, gaining experience across Europe’s top leagues.
His appointment at Botafogo signals a bold new step in his career — taking charge of a professional club independently for the first time, and doing so in a football-obsessed nation like Brazil.
The club expressed confidence in Ancelotti’s leadership, with sources close to the team citing his tactical acumen, experience at elite European clubs, and modern coaching philosophy as key assets.
David will be tasked with steering Botafogo through a competitive domestic season and potentially into continental contention.
