Cincinnati, June 16 (V7N) — European giants Bayern Munich thrashed New Zealand's Auckland City FC by a staggering 10-0 margin in their opening match of the FIFA Club World Cup at TQL Stadium, Cincinnati, on Sunday.
Auckland City, largely comprised of amateur footballers balancing professional jobs and studies, were no match for Bayern’s relentless attacking power. From the outset, the German champions dominated possession, forcing Auckland into a deep defensive setup. However, Bayern’s attacking storm broke through with ease, taking a commanding 6-0 lead by halftime.
The second half followed the same pattern of dominance. Jamal Musiala, who entered as a substitute for Harry Kane in the 61st minute, stole the show. He netted twice in quick succession in the 67th and 73rd minutes before completing his hat-trick in the 84th.
Goals also came from Coman, Thomas Müller, and Leroy Sané, while youngster Mathys Tel and veteran Sacha Boey added their names to the scoresheet.
Despite Auckland City's fighting spirit, the gulf in class was simply too wide. The defeat highlights the challenges faced by smaller, semi-professional clubs on the global stage, especially against footballing powerhouses like Bayern Munich.
Bayern Munich will next face Argentine club Boca Juniors in their second group stage match on June 21 at 7:00 AM Bangladesh time.
