Sydney, Dec 17 (V7N) — Australian authorities have confirmed that one of the attackers involved in the deadly incident at Bondi Beach in Sydney was an Indian national who migrated to Australia from Hyderabad in 1998.

According to officials, the attacker, Sajid Akram, initially arrived in Australia on a student visa and later settled in the country. Investigators said multiple pieces of evidence have been collected, including Akram’s passport, confirming his identity and origin.

Authorities said Sajid Akram held a bachelor’s degree in business education from Hyderabad and last visited India in 2022. His children are reported to be Australian citizens.

The incident occurred last Sunday during a Jewish religious ceremony at Bondi Beach, when Sajid Akram and his son, Naveed Akram, allegedly opened fire, killing 15 people.

Security forces responded swiftly to the attack. Sajid Akram was shot dead at the scene, while his son Naveed Akram sustained serious injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital under police supervision.

Australian authorities have launched a full investigation into the incident to determine the motive and any possible links. Further details are expected to be released following ongoing inquiries.
