Savar, Dec 16 (V7N) — National Citizens Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam on Tuesday said unity is essential to resist what he described as the “agents of 1971 and 1924,” expressing optimism that victory would come in a future Bangladesh.
He made the remarks after paying tribute to the martyrs at the National Martyrs’ Memorial in Savar on the occasion of the Great Victory Day.
Nahid Islam said Bangladesh was born in 1971 with the ideals of equality and human dignity. However, he claimed that despite gaining independence, those ideals were not realized, and instead what he termed fascism took root in the country.
He alleged that forces currently in power are attempting to destabilize Bangladesh and undermine the electoral process. Emphasizing public vigilance, he said people must ensure their own security and not rely solely on the government for protection.
Regarding the upcoming elections, Nahid Islam said NCP candidates would approach voters as “referendum candidates,” seeking public support for reforms. He added that a mass movement in favor of reforms would be built and urged the youth to remain united with a commitment to future-oriented politics.
