Dhaka, July 31 (V7N) – BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that the BNP is not desperate to regain power, but rather is committed to restoring the ownership of the country to its people. He stressed that many of the nation’s problems could be resolved if elections are held by February next year.
Fakhrul made these remarks during a discussion meeting organized to mark the anniversary of the July-August coup, held at the National Press Club on Thursday afternoon.
Speaking on political reforms, the BNP leader noted that the parties involved have already reached an agreement on 12 fundamental issues. “Efforts are underway to build consensus on the remaining points,” he added, emphasizing that reforms should focus on the basic issues that garner agreement, while setting aside more divisive topics.
He further stated, “In a democracy, grievances are natural, but there should be limits to how much we cry over them. Otherwise, it creates bitterness that can affect the future.”
Fakhrul called for collective efforts to build the nation, urging all parties to work together while honoring the sacrifices of the martyrs of that turbulent period.
