Dhaka, July 31 (V7N) – BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed declared that the upcoming July Charter will bear the signatures of all participating political parties and that no party will have the courage to defy it once passed through the next parliament.

He made these remarks on Wednesday after a round of discussions with political parties at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka.

Salahuddin stated, “We are 100 percent in agreement with the draft of the July Charter. Just minor changes in wording are needed in one or two places.”

Referring to the work of the Consensus Commission, he said, “Out of 826 proposals, we could not agree on only 51. So how can anyone say BNP doesn’t want reforms?” He stressed that the party is deeply engaged in the reform process.

On the issue of women’s representation in parliament, Salahuddin acknowledged differing opinions among parties. “Some parties have slightly different views, which is why there was no major progress on this matter in today’s discussion,” he said.

He further clarified BNP’s position, stating, “We support increasing women’s seats to 100. We propose that 5 percent be directly elected, and 50 seats be reserved.”

Despite a few disagreements, Salahuddin emphasized that the reform dialogue is progressing and the July Charter will be a binding commitment for all parties.
