Gopalganj, July 19 (V7N) – Police have filed a case against 1,655 Awami League leaders and activists in Kotalipara upazila following a protest rally on July 18. SI Uttam Kumar Sen lodged the case at Kotalipara Police Station on Friday, naming 155 individuals and listing 1,500 others as unidentified suspects.
 
The police conducted operations across the upazila and arrested 12 people, including Abdul Alim (18), Mohib Ullah Sheikh (35), Sirajul Sheikh (20), Dipto Kazi (20), Prince Adhikari (18), Morshalin Munshi (29), Rifat Biswas (25), Sagar Sheikh (38), Manik Sheikh (56), Sojal Daria (30), Abdul Hakim (35), and Tutul Howlader (28).
 
Abul Kalam Azad, Officer-in-Charge of Kotalipara Police Station, said the case was filed under the Special Powers Act against 155 named individuals and 1,500 unidentified persons from the Awami League. Efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining suspects.
 
The case follows a protest rally held on July 18 in the Wabdharhat area of Kotalipara, where Awami League leaders and activists gathered to demonstrate. The protest was reportedly organized to voice concerns over local issues, leading to police action and the subsequent filing of the case. Police sources confirmed the case was filed in response to this gathering, citing violations that prompted legal action.
