Dhaka, July 1 (V7N) — People's Rights Council President Nurul Haque Nur has said that disagreement prevails among most leaders and activists within the Consensus Commission, and proposed holding a referendum to resolve the differences if necessary.

Speaking at a discussion titled “From Quota Reform Movement to State Reform Movement” at the Dhaka Reporters Unity on Tuesday afternoon, Nur stressed that “July is not a symbol of division, but of unity.” He criticized those political parties that, he said, “think they can come to power and therefore refuse to accept key reforms.”

Nur urged all political forces to refrain from making divisive statements, saying, “Even if others compromise, the People's Rights Council will not compromise on the issue of the Awami League. No political party or advisor will be spared on this matter.”

He also questioned the capability of the current advisory council to oversee free and fair national elections, remarking, “The national election is not possible with the current advisory council’s fitness.”

Addressing the unfulfilled expectations of the families of July Uprising martyrs, Nur highlighted that Abu Sayeed’s father recently said in a television interview that they “have not received the support they deserved from the state.” Nur added, “It is the government’s responsibility to address this lingering regret.”
