Mongla, August 13 (V7N) — A foreign cargo vessel carrying coal for the Rampal Thermal Power Plant has anchored at Mongla Port, marking another step in the plant’s ongoing fuel supply operations.

The ship, MV Royal Image, arrived from Indonesia and anchored at Anchorage Point No. 11 in Harbaria on Tuesday afternoon, according to Hussain Imam, Operations Manager at Togi Shipping Lines, the vessel's local shipping agent.

Carrying a total of 28,400 metric tonnes of coal, the unloading operation began shortly after arrival. The discharged coal is being transferred onto lighter vessels, which then transport the cargo to the Rampal Thermal Power Plant’s jetty.

Once the lighter vessels reach the plant, the coal is moved through an automated belt system into the facility’s storage units, ensuring a continuous supply for electricity generation.

This delivery is part of a regular coal import schedule that fuels the Rampal plant, a key power generation facility located near the Sundarbans in southern Bangladesh. The plant, also known as the Maitree Super Thermal Power Project, is a joint venture between Bangladesh and India and is designed to generate 1,320 megawatts of electricity when fully operational.

Officials at Mongla Port confirmed that all port operations, including unloading and transshipment, are proceeding smoothly under standard safety and environmental protocols.
