Dhaka, Sep 22 (V7N) – Students of Dhaka University (DU) have submitted a memorandum to Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan demanding the abolition of the “pet quota” in admission tests.
The memorandum was handed over on Monday afternoon, with students stressing that DU’s admission process must be 100% merit-based. They urged the administration to abolish all quotas for the relatives of teachers, officers, and employees, warning of a strong movement if “eye-wash decisions” are made again.
In response, VC Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan said that a writ petition has already been filed regarding the matter and assured the students that the administration is determined to resolve the issue. He also promised to maintain coordination with the protesting students.
Earlier, Rajshahi University (RU) authorities postponed their decision to reinstate pet quota after facing student agitation. The announcement came through the university’s official Facebook page around 1 a.m. on Saturday (Sept 20). Following this, the demand for abolishing the pet quota has intensified at DU as well.
