Pabna, Sept 21 (V7N) – Bangladesh University Grants Commission Member Dr. Mashuma Habib emphasized the importance of respecting and nurturing students, urging teachers to dedicate time, attention, and guidance to develop their talents and potential. Speaking at a training workshop on “Intellectual Property Rights” at Pabna University of Science and Technology on September 20, 2025, she said students should be cultivated like children by their parents, equally valued and guided to become responsible global citizens.
Dr. Habib highlighted that teachers play a critical role in fulfilling the aspirations of the 2024 people’s uprising by implementing educational reforms. She stressed that only committed and ideal teachers can inspire students to value and follow guidance, ultimately contributing to national transformation.
The workshop was chaired by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. S.M. Abdul Awal, with special guests including Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam, Treasurer Professor Dr. Shamim Ahsan, and University Grants Commission Director Durgarani Sarker. UGC Assistant Director Mostak Ahmed attended as a resource person. The Institutional Quality Assurance Cell organized the event via virtual classrooms with participation from deans, department heads, and faculty members across the university.
Dr. Habib also urged faculty to protect intellectual property rights of research papers, noting that the UGC has introduced registration, legal assistance, and training programs to encourage awareness and proper management of research outputs.
Vice-Chancellor Dr. Abdul Awal emphasized that past restrictions had limited student freedoms, and teachers must now plan effectively to cultivate students as responsible citizens. He praised the young faculty of Pabna University of Science and Technology for their active role in improving educational standards, expressing optimism that the university will become a center of excellence through collective efforts.
Other speakers included Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Nazrul Islam, Treasurer Professor Dr. Shamim Ahsan, UGC Director Durgarani Sarker, Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences Mir Khaled Ibal Chowdhury, and IQAC Director Professor Dr. Md. Shamim Reza. The program was conducted by Additional Director Ashfaqur Rahman.
The workshop reinforced the need for teachers to guide students, safeguard research innovations through patents, and contribute to the nation’s intellectual and social development.
