SYLHET, July 25 (V7N) — A key activist of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement was stabbed in Sylhet's Ambarkhana area on Thursday night. The victim, identified as Toufik Omar Tanvir (22), a prominent member of the city's metropolitan committee, was attacked around 11:30 PM. He was rushed to Osmani Medical College Hospital by local residents, where he is currently receiving treatment. His condition is reportedly stable.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and the police are still investigating. According to Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) of the Sylhet Metropolitan Police, Mohammad Saiful Islam, Tanvir was stabbed in the thigh with a knife. He mentioned that the police had visited the crime scene immediately after the incident and are working to identify those responsible.

The victim, Tanvir, is a well-known activist involved in various social causes, and no concrete details have been released regarding the identity of the assailant. Authorities are looking for leads and trying to piece together the circumstances surrounding the attack.

The news of the assault comes at a time when the National Citizen's Party (NCP) is holding rallies in Sylhet and Sunamganj. NCP leader Nahid Islam, along with central party leaders, is expected to attend these events. They arrived in Sunamganj on Thursday night and are scheduled to attend a rally at the city’s traffic point at 2 PM, followed by a gathering in Sylhet around 5:30 PM. Interestingly, this incident occurred while party leaders were in Sunamganj, and news of the attack on the student activist in Sylhet broke during their stay.

This unfortunate attack has raised concerns among the local community and activists, who have expressed fears about the increasing violence against political and social movement leaders. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are calling on the public to stay calm as they work to bring the perpetrators to justice.

The incident is under investigation, and further updates are expected in the coming days.
