Pabna, July 3 (V7N) — Advocate Arifa Sultana Ruma, a member of the BNP’s Dhaka South Convening Committee, has called on all factions of the party to unite behind Hasan Zafir Tuhin, the President of the BNP’s central Farmers' Wing (Krishak Dal), following his provisional nomination as the BNP candidate for Pabna-3 in the upcoming national election.

Speaking to reporters after leading a celebratory rally organized by the Chhatra Dal in Chatmohar on Wednesday afternoon, Ruma stated that Tarique Rahman, the BNP’s Acting Chairman, had formally instructed party leaders responsible for the Rajshahi Division to begin working with Tuhin as the party’s nominee.

“The message from Tarique Rahman is clear,” Ruma said. “There is no longer room for debate. I call on everyone to respect this decision, put aside differences, and strengthen the hand of K̲r̲i̲s̲h̲i̲b̲i̲d̲ Tuhin Bhai in his campaign.”

The rally began in the Dolong area of Chatmohar municipal town and proceeded through Hospital Gate, Thana Mor, Star Mor, and concluded at the central bus terminal. The event was held in celebration of Tuhin’s nomination and was attended by local and regional BNP and Chhatra Dal leaders.

Among the speakers at a brief street gathering were Advocate Arifa Sultana Ruma, former Senior Vice President of Chatmohar BNP Prof. Mahmudul Alam Mahmud, Chatmohar Upazila Chhatra Dal Convener Fulchand Hossain Shamim, Joint Convener Jannatun Naeem Jui, and Saikola Union Chhatra Dal President Rakib.

Responding to a reporter’s question, Ruma acknowledged that there were several nomination hopefuls from within Chatmohar, including herself. However, she reiterated that the authority to finalize nominations rests with the party leadership. “The nomination for Pabna-3 is not about personal ambition. It is about the party's strategic judgment. Tarique Rahman has chosen who he believes is most capable, and we must rally behind that decision.”

She also dismissed suggestions that Tuhin’s nomination from outside the area was irregular, pointing to past instances where candidates had been assigned to constituencies outside their home districts. “This is not a new practice. It is part of a consistent strategy. If there had been a candidate with equal or greater qualifications in Pabna-3, I don’t think the party would have brought in Krishibid Tuhin. He was selected because of his experience, leadership, and capability.”

Calling for discipline and party unity, Ruma concluded, “Those who are still undecided or hesitant must quickly overcome their doubts. We must now focus all our energy on winning this seat and ensuring victory for the BNP and the ‘sheaf of paddy’ symbol.”
