Bagerhat, June 30 (V7N) – With the theme "Building a Peaceful and Harmonious Bangladesh, Not Conflict," an interfaith dialogue was held on Monday morning in Morelganj upazila of Bagerhat, aiming to foster mutual respect and social cohesion among communities of different religious backgrounds.
Organized by the Peace Facilitator Group (PFG), the event took place at the Upazila Parishad conference hall, beginning at 10:00 AM with the rendition of the national anthem. The dialogue brought together leaders and representatives from various religious and political communities, along with government officials and civil society members.
The Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), Habibullah, was present as the chief guest, while the discussion was presided over by Faruk Hossain Samad, the PFG Upazila Coordinator. Among the special guests were Assistant Commissioner (Land) Badroddoza, Officer-in-Charge of Morelganj Police Station Motlubur Rahman, Project Implementation Officer Abdullah Al Jabir, Convenor of the Upazila BNP Shahidul Haque Babul, Ameer of Upazila Jamaat-e-Islami Maulana Shahadat Hossain, and General Secretary of Paurashava BNP Asaduzzaman Milon.
Prominent voices also included Freedom Fighter Ruhul Amin Fakir, Abdus Salam, Imam Hasan Bin Malek, and Hindu Priest Shashangkar Chakraborty, all of whom stressed the need for ongoing interreligious cooperation, tolerance, and empathy as pillars of a peaceful society.
Speakers highlighted that religious harmony is a cornerstone of Bangladesh's cultural identity and that interfaith engagement plays a crucial role in preventing extremism, reducing tension, and strengthening the social fabric.
The dialogue concluded with a unanimous commitment to uphold peace and unity, irrespective of religious or political affiliation, and a collective pledge to work towards a tolerant and inclusive Bangladesh.
