Brahmanbaria, Dec 18 (V7N) – A man was critically injured after being shot by assailants following a minor dispute in Brahmanbaria city on Wednesday evening, police said.

The incident occurred around 6:15 pm in front of the Munsefpara Christian Mission Memorial Hospital. The victim, identified as Sagar Mia, 35, son of Abu Sayeed from the Fulbari area of the municipality, was standing with his cousin Enamul Haque when he was attacked.

According to eyewitnesses, family members, and police sources, the attackers arrived on motorcycles and opened fire on Sagar before fleeing the scene. Panic spread in the area, prompting nearby shops to shut down temporarily. Local residents rushed the injured man to Brahmanbaria General Hospital.

Emergency department physician Humayun Kabir said Sagar sustained deep bullet wounds to the left side of his chest and his right thigh. An X-ray of the chest was conducted before he was given initial treatment. Due to the severity of his injuries, relatives transferred him to Dhaka around 8:00 pm for advanced medical care.

Enamul Haque said the attack appeared to be linked to a heated phone conversation Sagar had moments before the shooting. He added that the assailant, identified as Iman, arrived with several accomplices shortly after the argument and carried out the attack.

Brahmanbaria Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Shahidul Islam said police are investigating the incident to determine the motive and identify those responsible. Additional police have been deployed in the area to maintain law and order, he added.
