Dhaka, July 21 (V7N) – Four individuals—including two retired military personnel—were arrested yesterday afternoon in connection with a home robbery at Plot 807 on Road 11, Mirpur DOHS. The incident occurred around 3:00 PM on Sunday, when the suspects reportedly identified themselves as law enforcement officers, only to later reveal their criminal identities.
The arrested include retired Lieutenant Iftikhar and ex-Corporal Mukul. Recovered items from their possession include five mobile phones, diamond and gold jewelry, a laptop, three wristwatches, cosmetics, several yaba pills, and a passport.
The targeted home belongs to retired Major Saber Ali and is currently registered under his tenant, Borhan. According to statements from the police, Lieutenant Iftikhar, Corporal Mukul, and a team of 7–8 individuals forcibly entered the residence, claiming to be security forces, based on intelligence that Borhan possessed illegal arms. After ransacking the premises, they contacted homeowner Hossena Ara Champa to demand money before fleeing.
Champa’s brother, Jahurul Islam, stated that he was at the hospital during the hotel. “At the time of incident, my mother was in the hospital. The thieves impersonated law enforcement officers, demanded entry, then took everything in sight. My niece and maid were inside,” he said. Champa has filed a complaint at Pallabi Police Station.
Local resident Harunur Rashid, who followed the suspects on a motorcycle and shouted “thieves,” played a pivotal role in their capture. The suspects were eventually cornered near the Mirpur-12 NDC checkpost after being blocked by traffic and local bystanders.
Following a dispute over the stolen goods, one member reportedly alerted authorities at the checkpoint that the group comprised fake army personnel—leading to the arrest of four individuals on site.
During interrogation, Mukul admitted he had recently met Harunur at a tea stall in Mirpur-10. Harunur reportedly mentioned illegal weapons possessed by Borhan, prompting their attack on the residence.
Mirpur’s Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Saleh M. Zakaria confirmed the arrests, stating that the suspects have been handed over to police, and legal proceedings are underway. Three of the arrested are confirmed to be former army officers, while the fourth suspect is believed to be an Uber driver who ferried the group to the site in complicity with Borhan’s son.
