Dhaka, August 21, (V7N) – Lieutenant General Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Agriculture Advisor to the Chief Advisor, has announced that dealers involved in fertilizer price manipulation will lose their licenses, and new dealerships will be issued in their place.
Speaking to reporters at the Secretariat on Monday morning, the advisor said the government is taking strict measures to ensure fair pricing of agricultural inputs. “The price of fertilizer has increased in Malaysia, and the government is trying to source fertilizer from alternative countries,” he noted.
Jahangir Alam Chowdhury assured that there is a sufficient stock of fertilizer until next November, adding that the dealership policy is being revised to prevent future manipulation and protect farmers' interests.
He also acknowledged that farmers did not receive a fair price for potatoes this year, and in response, the government plans to establish 100 new cold storages across the country to ensure better preservation and market access.
Regarding corruption in agricultural projects, the advisor confirmed that irregularities in machinery procurement are being investigated by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
