DHAKA, Mar 27 (V7N) – BNP Secretary General and Local Government Affairs Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called upon the nation to carry forward the spirit of independence by decisively defeating "evil forces" that he claims are resurfacing in new forms. Speaking at a high-level discussion meeting organized by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) at the Engineers Institution auditorium this Friday, Fakhrul reflected on the 55-year journey of Bangladesh since its liberation.
Warning Against "New Forms" of Collaboration
In a pointed address marking the Great Independence and National Day, Mirza Fakhrul drew parallels between the adversaries of 1971 and contemporary political challenges:
-
Historical Betrayal: He reminded the audience of the "collaboration with the Pakistani army" that led to the humiliation and killing of countless Bengalis during the Liberation War.
-
Modern Threat: Fakhrul warned that these same "evil forces" have reappeared in a "new form" to undermine the country’s hard-won sovereignty and democratic institutions.
-
Call for Vigilance: "We must be extremely careful of them," he cautioned, urging the youth and party activists to remain vigilant against any attempts to destabilize the current transition toward a "true democracy."
Upholding the Spirit of 1971
The Secretary General emphasized that the primary goal of the current administration, led by Tarique Rahman, is to fulfill the unachieved dreams of the 1971 martyrs—specifically focusing on social justice and the rule of law. He noted that after 15 years of "authoritarian misrule," the nation finally has an opportunity to rebuild its identity based on the original vision of the proclamation of independence.
Historical Supremacy of the Liberation War
The event also featured Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, who reinforced the message of historical integrity. Ahmed asserted that the history of 1971 must be placed above all else and should not be equated with or compared to any other historical movement. He reiterated that documenting the "accurate history" of the declaration of independence is a top priority for the Home Ministry to ensure future generations are not misled.
A Gathering of Leadership
The discussion meeting was attended by senior BNP leaders, including Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury and Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan. The speakers collectively reaffirmed their commitment to the "Rebuild Bangladesh" initiative, seeking to stabilize the economy amidst the global energy crisis while protecting the country from internal and external "conspiracies."
