Dhaka, June 17 (V7N) — Vice-Chairman of the National Consensus Commission, Professor Ali Riaz, expressed hope on Tuesday that a national charter could be finalized by July, provided political parties cooperate constructively.

Speaking at the second phase of discussions with political parties held at 11 a.m. on June 17 at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka, Ali Riaz acknowledged that while full agreement on all issues might be challenging, concessions would be made in the national interest.

The ongoing talks focus on critical topics including Article 70 of the Constitution, appointment of the chairman of parliamentary standing committees, establishment of a bicameral parliament with women’s representation, and the process for appointing the Chief Justice.

This phase of the discussions emphasizes reaching consensus on contentious issues. The meeting is scheduled to continue with participation from around 30 political parties, including the BNP, from June 17 to 19.
