Dhaka, Feb 03 (V7N) — A video showing Jamaat candidate for Dhaka-17, Dr. SM Khaliduzzaman, attempting to enter a cantonment with a gun has gone viral on social media. The candidate addressed the incident on his verified Facebook page on Tuesday and issued an apology.
In his post, Khaliduzzaman wrote:
“A few days ago, an unwanted situation arose with members of the army, the vigilant guardian of Bangladesh’s sovereignty, regarding entry into the cantonment area, which led to mixed reactions. Although the matter has already been resolved, unfortunately, a vested interest group is trying to divert the situation. I express my regret about the incident and will try my best to prevent such misunderstandings in the future, Insha Allah.”
The viral video shows Khaliduzzaman attempting to enter the cantonment accompanied by several people, including a figure identified as Ganman, but army personnel on duty stopped him, leading to a heated exchange.
An army member is heard saying:
“I didn’t forbid you to go. I told you to just go. But entering our cantonment with music and weapons is prohibited.”
At one point, Khaliduzzaman reportedly said:
“You are sitting with music. In the case of Tarique Zia (BNP Chairman), you are licking the road with your tongue. Why can’t we go?”
Khaliduzzaman later spoke to an army officer on the phone and left in his car after receiving no formal instructions.
