Shariatpur, August 4 (V7N) – Two motorcyclists were killed in a collision with a passenger bus near the southern side of the Padma Bridge on the Dhaka-Vanga Expressway on Saturday late night.
 
The accident occurred around 11:30 pm in the Padma Bridge South area under the jurisdiction of Padma Setu South Police Station in Jajira Upazila of Shariatpur district.
 
The deceased has been identified as Mohammad Ali Ontu, 26, son of Golam Kibria from Zaynabari, Hemayetpur, Savar, Dhaka district. The identity of the other victim is yet to be confirmed.
 
According to Zahidul Islam, Officer-in-Charge, (OC) of Hawi Police Station in Shibchar, Madaripur, both victims were traveling by motorcycle from the capital Dhaka toward Vanga in Faridpur. After crossing the Padma Bridge toll plaza, a passenger bus coming from behind struck their motorcycle, causing it to crash severely.
 
Both riders were thrown off the bike, landing first on the road and then in the adjacent ditch. They died instantly at the scene.
 
Highway police arrived shortly after receiving the report and recovered the bodies. The bus driver fled the scene before authorities could identify the vehicle. Legal action is underway to locate the driver and hold them accountable.
 
The Dhaka-Vanga Expressway near the Padma Bridge has witnessed several such accidents, prompting calls for stricter traffic monitoring and enhanced road safety measures. Authorities urge drivers and riders to exercise caution to prevent further tragedies.
