Savar, June 19 (V7N) — Five members of a family sustained serious burn injuries after a gas leak led to an explosion at a residential home in Ashulia, on the outskirts of Dhaka. The incident occurred on Wednesday morning in the Mondol Market area of Nishchintapur.

According to local sources, the explosion was caused by accumulated gas from a leaking cylinder, which ignited suddenly, leading to a partial collapse of the ground floor wall of a two-story house owned by Jewel Ahmed.

The injured have been identified as Jahanara (40), Jewel (24), Shanto (21), Hawa Akter (23), and Johorul (26). All five victims were immediately transferred to the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka for urgent treatment.

Medical authorities confirmed that Jahanara suffered burns over 68% of her body, while Jewel sustained 6% burns. The conditions of the others are being monitored closely.

Emergency response teams and local police visited the scene shortly after the explosion. Investigations are underway to determine whether proper safety measures were in place and if the gas cylinder was being used or stored improperly.

Fire safety experts have repeatedly warned of the dangers posed by poor handling of gas cylinders in residential areas across Bangladesh, particularly in densely populated suburbs such as Ashulia.

This incident adds to a growing list of domestic gas-related accidents in recent years, many of which have resulted in life-threatening injuries and property damage.
