Dhaka, Dec 23 (V7N)- After more than 17 years in exile, BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman is scheduled to return to Bangladesh on December 25, generating excitement among party leaders, activists, and supporters across the country. Tarique Rahman has also announced his intention to contest the upcoming 13th National Parliament elections and to remain actively involved throughout the election period.
Despite concerns over his safety, BNP officials say that comprehensive security arrangements are being made. Police authorities have confirmed that the highest security protocols are in place, including a dedicated Chairperson Security Force (CSF) to ensure his protection throughout the journey from the airport to his residence in Gulshan.
DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media) Talebur Rahman stated, “We do not perceive any immediate threat. Full security measures have been implemented, and all possible travel routes have been considered for his safe transit.” Upon arrival, Tarique Rahman is expected to pay respects at Evercare Hospital, located near the airport, before proceeding to his Gulshan Avenue residence.
Political analysts and BNP leaders believe Tarique Rahman’s return will have a significant impact on the party and the upcoming elections. Professor Sabbir Ahmed, a political analyst, said, “Tarique Rahman is a central figure in BNP politics. His return will revive the party and serve as a unifying factor amid internal challenges.”
BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury added, “The party has grown stronger under his leadership. Bangladesh First is our guiding slogan, and the people are eagerly waiting for his return. Under his leadership, we will approach the elections with full strength.”
Concerns over political violence remain, following the shootings of BNP candidate Ershad Ullah in Chittagong and Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Osman Hadi in Dhaka earlier this month. Nevertheless, BNP and law enforcement authorities are coordinating extensively to ensure the acting chairman’s safe arrival and security throughout the election campaign.
