Dhaka, Dec 19 (V7N)- The sit-in program scheduled to be held at Shahbagh after Friday prayers following the death of Inqilab Manch spokesperson Sharif Osman Bin Hadi has been postponed, National Citizens Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam has said.
Instead, a protest march will be held from Bangla Motor at 4:00 pm today, he announced in a post on his verified Facebook account around noon on Friday.
In the post, Nahid Islam urged activists and supporters to exercise restraint, stating, “Exercise utmost caution in any program after Friday prayers today. The anti-July forces have plans to carry out vandalism and sabotage like yesterday. We are against any kind of violence and sabotage.”
He also called on people to play a responsible role in preventing any group from exploiting public anger to engage in vandalism, arson, or destructive activities.
Following the news of Sharif Osman Bin Hadi’s death, protests erupted across various parts of the country overnight. In Chattogram, the houses of two former ministers were reportedly set on fire. In Rajshahi, the office of the banned Awami League was demolished.
Meanwhile, anger also spread to the capital, where the offices of Prothom Alo and The Daily Star in Karwan Bazar were attacked and vandalized.
Law enforcement agencies remain on alert amid growing tensions nationwide.
