Dhaka, Nov 13 (V7N) — Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar criticized Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus for deciding to hold the referendum and the National Parliament election on the same day, saying it disregards the will of the people.

Speaking at a press conference at the party’s Moghbazar office on Thursday afternoon, Golam Parwar said, “We have repeatedly requested and argued not to hold the referendum and parliamentary elections simultaneously. Still, they have been ignored.”

He raised concerns about potential complications at polling centers, saying, “Every time in national elections, problems arise at some centers, and voting is stopped at many places. If symbol voting is disrupted, what will happen to the referendum on that day?”

Golam Parwar added that 125 million voters could be adversely affected by the Chief Advisor’s decision. He noted that Jamaat, along with seven other like-minded parties, had requested the referendum to be held before the national election, but their concerns were not addressed.

He also said the party’s executive council will review all decisions made by the Chief Advisor after Thursday evening, and the eight-party alliance will provide a detailed response afterward.
