Dhaka, Nov 07 (V7N) — National Citizens Party Convener Nahid Islam has said that the people of Bangladesh are eager for real change, warning that without it, uprisings, elections, and consensus commissions will all fail.

He made the remarks at the inaugural ceremony of the University Teachers Forum held at the Bangla Academy in the capital on Friday (November 7) afternoon.

Nahid Islam cautioned that if change does not come, the youth will once again take to the streets if necessary. He said, “The fascist structure still exists — that is why, even after the consensus process, there is no real consensus.”

He further stated that fascism cannot be eradicated without changing the mindset of individuals and society. Praising the role of educators, he added that a union of students and teachers has emerged through the mass uprising, and teachers are playing a key role in the struggle to establish democracy. Nahid also pledged his party’s full support for the teachers’ movement.
