Dhaka, Sep 04 (V7N) – A Dhaka court has barred Jatiya Party Chairman and former Rangpur-3 MP Golam Mohammad Quader (GM Quader) and his wife Sherifa Quader from leaving the country over allegations of acquiring illegal assets through corruption, extortion, nomination trading, and embezzlement of party funds.
The order was issued on Thursday morning by Acting Judge Ibrahim Mia of the Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge's Court, following a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
According to the ACC application, the couple is accused of amassing movable and immovable assets in Bangladesh and abroad beyond their known sources of income. Confidential reports suggested they were attempting to transfer properties and leave the country.
The ACC argued that if they fled, the ongoing investigation would be hampered. The court agreed, imposing the travel ban to ensure a fair probe.
