Dhaka, Sep 01 (V7N) – Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said the party has brought fundamental changes to the country’s politics and economy, including the establishment of multi-party democracy in opposition to the former one-party rule system.
He made the remarks while paying homage at the tomb of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman on the occasion of the party’s 47th founding anniversary on Monday (September 1).
Mirza Fakhrul stated that repeated attempts have been made to destroy BNP, but the party has always risen like a phoenix. He added, “If the state comes to power in the future through the people’s vote, BNP will work to build a prosperous country.”
Highlighting the upcoming national elections, he said the party is committed to cooperating fully to ensure free and fair elections scheduled for February. BNP has expressed full support for the necessary reforms to facilitate this process.
This year’s anniversary is being celebrated in a relatively favorable political environment after a prolonged period of over one and a half decades. Following the fall of the Awami League government in the student-public uprising on August 5 last year, Bangladesh has entered a new political chapter, with BNP now marking 48 years since its founding.
