Dhaka, Aug 30 (V7N) – BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has pledged that if the BNP forms the next government, appropriate laws will be enacted in line with the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearances (ICPPED). He made the commitment in a message marking the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances.

"Enforced disappearances are a global problem and a gross violation of human rights," Tarique said in his statement. "Such inhumane incidents often take place in authoritarian regimes and regions of political conflict, where state security forces or law enforcement agencies use ruthless tactics against opposition movements or dissident leaders."

The BNP leader alleged that Bangladesh has witnessed "unprecedented levels of enforced disappearances" during the tenure of Sheikh Hasina. He said law enforcement agencies have frequently resorted to such practices against anti-government activists and political opponents.

Tarique Rahman assured that under a BNP-led government, measures will be taken to ensure that no individual in Bangladesh falls victim to enforced disappearances in the future.
