Dhaka, August 27 (V7N) – BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has alleged that a group in Delhi provided Tk 2.5 billion to Sheikh Hasina as part of a conspiracy to derail Bangladesh’s upcoming national election.
He made the allegation while speaking at a discussion meeting marking the 10th death anniversary of Kazi Zafar Ahmed at the National Press Club on Wednesday afternoon.
“Not only Sheikh Hasina, but some political circles are also attempting to sabotage the election under the guise of making new demands. A circle within the government is consciously working to block the pro-democracy forces from coming to power,” Fakhrul said.
Emphasizing that there is “no alternative to elections” in countering such conspiracies, the BNP leader urged all democratic forces to remain united and vigilant. He also called for the swift completion of the July Charter reforms to prevent unnecessary complications.
“Everyone must stay alert and careful from their respective positions,” he added.
