London, Aug 07 (V7N) – BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has stated that the political success achieved on August 5 was not the result of any single party, but rather a collective victory by the people of Bangladesh. He emphasized that the movement in July against the misrule of the Awami League was a people’s uprising in which citizens from all walks of life took part.

Tarique Rahman made these remarks as the chief guest at a memorial event held in London on Wednesday evening to commemorate the 41st death anniversary of Rear Admiral Mahbub Ali Khan, former Navy Chief and father of Dr. Zubaida Rahman.

“Mahbub Ali Khan was a patriot who served the country with dedication,” Tarique said. “We who are involved in politics must always remember that our mission is to serve the people. Today, a transformation has taken place in Bangladesh. The people are more aware and more active. We must seize this opportunity to stand by them and continue to work toward a better future.”

Reflecting on the recent political developments, he said, “The change that has come in the country is the result of a collective movement. The victory on August 5 last year was only possible because the people united against tyranny. This was not the accomplishment of any single party but of an entire nation demanding justice and democracy.”

Tarique Rahman, who has been in exile for nearly 17 years, acknowledged the role of Bangladeshi expatriates in supporting the movement. “You, the expatriates, played a crucial role. From abroad, you inspired the people through social media and by raising your voices. I thank you all for your unwavering support. Just as you stood with us during the struggle, I hope you will also support the incoming democratic government.”

The memorial meeting was chaired by Sadiq Mia, president of the organizing body. Also present were Dr. Zubaida Rahman, UK BNP President and Chairperson's Advisor MA Malek, General Secretary Kaysar M Ahmed, and Kamal Uddin, Europe Coordinator of the Ziaur Rahman Foundation, among others.
