Dhaka, July 18 (V7N) – BNP Standing Committee Member Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain has alleged that tyrannical groups remain active in the country, citing the recent incident in Gopalganj as evidence.
He made the remarks during a protest rally organized at the National Press Club on Friday morning (July 18).
“Tarique Rahman has been slandered, Ziaur Rahman has been ridiculed. This is not political discourse, this is the language of tyranny,” Zahid Hossain stated, condemning what he called ongoing efforts to defame the BNP’s top leadership.
He further alleged that some groups are conspiring to seize power through “theft and manipulation,” warning that the people of Bangladesh will not accept such tactics. Zahid also expressed concern over the growing public frustration, noting a rising tendency among citizens to “take the law into their own hands.”
Commenting on the Mitford massacre, he said:
“A political label cannot be placed on this incident. It is the government’s responsibility to identify and punish the real culprits.”
Zahid Hossain emphasized the importance of restoring judicial integrity, saying the people must be assured that justice can still be served through the courts.
The BNP leader’s comments come amid heightened political tensions and public outrage over recent violence in various parts of the country.
