Tangail, July 17 (V7N) — In response to what it calls the interim government’s “apathy amid a deteriorating law and order situation” and the alleged defamation of former President and war hero Ziaur Rahman, the youth wing of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal, held a protest rally and demonstration in Tangail on Thursday.

The demonstration was part of a broader nationwide campaign organized by Jubo Dal, addressing both domestic political grievances and international concerns over governance in Bangladesh.

The protest march began in the morning from Nirala Morh near the Central Shaheed Minar and proceeded through several major streets in the city before culminating back at the starting point. A large number of Jubo Dal activists from both district and upazila levels participated, showing visible enthusiasm and unity throughout the event.

At the concluding protest rally, speakers condemned what they described as a “disgraceful and disrespectful act” against the portrait of the late President Ziaur Rahman, a decorated freedom fighter and founder of the BNP. “Kicking the portrait of Ziaur Rahman is not just an insult to one individual—it’s a direct affront to the ideals of our Liberation War,” said Advocate Farhad Iqbal, General Secretary of the Tangail District BNP.

Other prominent speakers included Ashraf Paheli, former convener of the Tangail Jubo Dal, current convener Khandaker Rasheduzzaman Rashed, and member secretary Touhidul Islam Babu. All called for swift justice against those responsible for what they termed a “deliberate provocation” against the nationalist legacy of Ziaur Rahman.

Protesters also voiced strong concerns over the declining state of public safety and political freedoms under the interim government, accusing it of failing to uphold constitutional responsibilities. The speakers demanded an immediate end to political repression and a return to democratic accountability.

The rally concluded peacefully, with organizers promising further demonstrations if their demands for justice and political reform remain unaddressed.
