Dhaka, July 03 (V7N) — BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has strongly criticized the government’s draft telecom network policy, calling it flawed and potentially harmful to the sector. He urged the government not to finalize the policy unilaterally ahead of the upcoming national elections.
Speaking at a press conference at the BNP Chairperson’s office in Gulshan on Thursday afternoon, Fakhrul said, “The problems in the draft policy could obstruct equitable and sustainable development in the telecom sector. This will increase the risk of creating a monopoly and push small entrepreneurs into financial crisis.”
He further highlighted that the draft lacks clarity regarding the ownership limits for foreign investors, which could discourage new investments and destabilize the sector.
Joining Fakhrul, Dr. Abdul Moin Khan, a member of the BNP Standing Committee, remarked that while the draft policy might favor large mobile operators and foreign investors, it offers no tangible benefit to the ordinary people of Bangladesh.
The BNP leaders called for inclusive dialogue with all stakeholders to ensure a balanced and fair telecom policy that protects national interests and supports local entrepreneurs.
