Dhaka, July 1 (V7N) — Many are expressing concern over the apparent lack of visible reforms and justice following the July uprising. However, the greatest success of July is the removal of dictatorship and the liberation of the people, said Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, Naib Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.

He made these remarks at a prayer program organized by Dhaka Metropolitan South Jamaat on Tuesday afternoon in memory of those who lost their lives in the July uprising.

“The time to say that July has failed has not yet come. The people will elect only those they vote for in the next election. That election must be fair and impartial. Otherwise, the country will fall into a crisis that the people will not tolerate. We will not accept elections without reforms,” Taher asserted.

He noted that since August 5 last year, the people have demanded fundamental changes that have been absent for the past 54 years. Taher said the government is striving to achieve these changes through reforms and to end the tendency of clinging to power indefinitely.

“Except for three parties including BNP, we are all united,” he said. “I call on all parties — come, let’s unite for fundamental change. We must accept the provisions of the constitutional amendment. If they refuse, we will launch another movement to compel the government to comply.”
