Dhaka, June 22 (V7N) — BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has said that there is a sense of relief across the country now that the next national election has been scheduled for February next year. While acknowledging the existence of differing opinions among political stakeholders, he emphasized that all efforts would focus on the issues where consensus exists.

He made these remarks while speaking to reporters after a meeting between BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and US Ambassador to Bangladesh Tracy Anne Jacobson. The meeting was held at the BNP Chairperson’s office in Gulshan on Sunday (June 22) morning.

Amir Khasru said that the BNP’s roadmap for the upcoming election was a key topic during the discussion. “They (the US) want to see peaceful transitions in Bangladesh through free and fair elections,” he added.

He further mentioned that bilateral trade issues and tariff policies were also discussed during the meeting.
