Dhaka, July 20, (V7N) – A total of 39 individuals, including former ministers, MPs, high-ranking police officers, and bureaucrats, were produced before the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) on Sunday morning in connection with seven separate cases related to crimes against humanity during the July–August uprising.

The accused were brought to the tribunal in separate prison vans under tight security.

Among them, 14 individuals—including former Law Minister Anisul Haque—were transported from Keraniganj Central Jail. Another 14, including former NTMC Director Ziaul Ahsan, were brought from Keraniganj Special Jail. Meanwhile, 15 individuals, including former Foreign Minister Dipu Moni, were produced from Kashimpur Jail, and former Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi was brought from Narayanganj Jail.

Prominent figures such as Salman F Rahman, Junaid Ahmed Palak, and several others from the previous Awami League administration are also among the accused.

Prosecution Seeks More Time

According to the prosecution, the investigation into these cases is still ongoing, and they will be seeking additional time for further inquiries.

These arrests come in the wake of the dramatic fall of the Awami League government on August 5, 2024, following a nationwide student-led uprising. Since then, law enforcement agencies have carried out a series of high-profile detentions of former ruling party leaders and state officials allegedly involved in human rights violations and war crime-related offenses committed during the civil unrest.

The tribunal is expected to hear preliminary proceedings in the coming weeks, although formal charges have not yet been framed.
