Dhaka, July 12 (V7N) – Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Director General AKM Shahidur Rahman has said that RAB is conducting a parallel investigation into the brutal murder of businessman Lal Chand alias Sohag in front of Mitford Hospital. So far, five suspects have been arrested in connection with the case—two by RAB and three by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
The RAB chief shared this information at a press briefing held at the RAB Media Center in the capital’s Karwan Bazar on Saturday afternoon.
“RAB is assisting DMP with a shadow investigation into the Mitford incident,” said DG Shahidur Rahman. “We are determined to bring all those involved under the law. No one will be spared.”
He also appealed to the public to refrain from participating in mob violence, adding that law enforcement agencies are actively working to control crimes such as robbery and extortion across the capital.
The case took a tragic turn when Lal Chand, also known as Sohag, was mercilessly beaten and killed using bricks and stones in broad daylight on July 9 in front of Mitford Hospital. The video footage of the incident, which quickly spread on social media, has shocked the nation.
Following the murder, the victim’s sister filed a case at Kotwali Police Station on Thursday, naming 19 individuals and listing another 10 to 15 as unidentified.
The government and various political and social organizations have vowed to ensure swift and exemplary justice in the case.
