DHAKA, June 14 (V7N) – The Bangladeshi government has directed all educational institutions across the country to observe World Environment Day programs on June 25. The move comes as the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change decided to postpone the national observance from its traditional date of June 5 due to the Eid-ul-Azha holidays.
A letter in this regard was sent today to all district education officials and other relevant authorities by the physical education section of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education.
Chief Adviser of the Interim Government, Professor Muhammad Yunus, is slated to inaugurate the day's programs on June 25.
The planned activities for educational institutions include extensive tree plantation drives and ongoing nurturing of tree saplings with the aim of greening their campuses. Beyond afforestation, the programs also encompass cleansing institution premises and classrooms, making students aware of curbing plastic and polythene use, and encouraging them to adopt environmentally friendly products.
To further highlight the importance of environmental conservation, processions will be organized, alongside discussions, seminars, and debate competitions.
Globally, World Environment Day 2025 is being observed with a theme focused on "Beat Plastic Pollution," with the Republic of Korea serving as the host nation. Bangladesh's delayed observance aligns with this global call for action against plastic waste and promoting sustainable practices.
