Geneva, Switzerland, June 15 (V7N) – Bangladesh's Labour and Employment Affairs Secretary, AHM Shafiquzzaman, announced that the country's Labour Law-2006 is set to be amended soon. The aim of these amendments is to further ensure the welfare and social security of workers and to foster a more congenial work environment.

Shafiquzzaman made the statement during a meeting with a delegation from Better Work Bangladesh in Geneva on Friday. The official release detailing the meeting was issued today.

Discussions during the meeting focused on several critical issues, including the International Labour Organization (ILO) roadmap, compensation for workplace injuries, social dialogue, adherence to ILO conventions, and strengthening factory inspection systems.

The Labour Secretary highlighted the success of Better Work Bangladesh's programs, which have reportedly ensured the empowerment and inclusive improvement of women in 450 factories across Bangladesh—an achievement that has garnered global appreciation.

In a move to encourage environmentally friendly production processes, a total of 24 factories are slated to receive the 'Green Factory Award.' Additionally, a workshop on 'better work programme for workers welfare' is scheduled for June 17.

To bolster the labor inspection system, the ministry will soon appoint 122 new Labour Inspectors.

The meeting saw the participation of key figures including the Director of Better Work Bangladesh, its head of policy research and evaluation, head of partnership advocacy and communication, and senior officials from Bangladesh's Ministry of Labour and Employment.
