Dhaka, Dec 19 (V7N) — Dhaka University and the adjacent Shahbagh area witnessed intense protests late Thursday night following the death of Sharif Osman Hadi, a prominent figure of the July uprising and spokesperson of Inkilab Mancha, who died while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Singapore.
On Thursday night (Dec 18), students from various residential halls of Dhaka University brought out processions and gathered at the base of the Raju Sculpture, chanting slogans demanding justice for Hadi’s killing and expressing anger over what they described as political violence and foreign dominance.
Protesters raised slogans calling for accountability over Hadi’s death, glorifying resistance, and vowing continued struggle. Many students described Hadi as a symbol of courage and defiance, whose death had further galvanized the youth.
Speaking at the protest, several students pledged to continue their movement until justice is ensured, alleging that Hadi was targeted for standing against injustice and domination. They said his blood would not be forgotten and claimed his ideals would live on through future struggles.
Another student criticized what he termed political complacency and silence in the face of killings, even during what he called a month of national victory. He urged society to reject politics based on compromise and appealed to families to raise future generations with the courage and principles Hadi represented.
The protests continued late into the night amid heightened emotion, reflecting growing unrest and demands for justice following Sharif Osman Hadi’s death, which has triggered nationwide grief and political tension.
