Dhaka, Nov 13 (V7N) — The Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) has cancelled the lifetime membership of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, declaring it unconstitutional and undemocratic.
The decision was made during DUCSU’s second executive meeting held on Wednesday night at the DUCSU conference room, presided over by Dhaka University Vice Chancellor and DUCSU President Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan.
Confirming the decision, DUCSU Vice President Sadiq Kayem said that the lifetime membership granted to Sheikh Hasina in 2019 was “illegal and beyond the DUCSU constitution.” He added that the previous resolution, passed under undemocratic circumstances, was officially revoked in the meeting.
In 2019, DUCSU had conferred lifetime membership on Sheikh Hasina when Nurul Haque served as Vice President and Golam Rabbani as General Secretary.
