Dhaka, Sep 20 (V7N) – Abidul Islam Khan, the defeated vice president (VP) candidate and joint general secretary of Dhaka University Chhatra Dal, has said that his organization exercised patience during the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) elections in the interest of the state.
Speaking at the third session of Tarunyar Rastrachinta on “Education and Educational Facilities with Human Values” at the Diploma Engineering Institute in Kakrail on Saturday, Abidul Islam stated that Chhatra Dal would soon announce its official position on the elections.
He recalled that allegations from the 2019 DUCSU election remain unresolved and warned that if the administration and Election Commission fail to ensure accountability this time, the possibility of the election being held again cannot be ruled out.
“After the results were announced, I did not return to the previous electoral culture. I did not block the Vice-Chancellor; instead, I remained patient. I tried to introduce a new trend in student politics in the new Bangladesh. But a net was laid in the election, and I was made the villain,” Abid said.
Regarding his party’s loss, he remarked, “We don’t want to call this defeat a defeat. What has become clear is that an invisible political force is dominating universities, including Dhaka University.”
