Rajshahi, Aug 03 (V7N) – A controversy has erupted after the admit card of a teacher recruitment applicant, bearing a recommendation from a former pro-Jamaat MP, was unintentionally published on the Facebook Day Story of Rajshahi University (RU) Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Farid Uddin Khan. The incident has raised serious concerns over the transparency and confidentiality of the recruitment process at the university.
The admit card, which surfaced on social media on Saturday (August 2), includes a recommendation letter from Md. Latifur Rahman, former MP of Chapainawabganj-3 and a former Nayeb-e-Amir of the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Chapainawabganj district branch. Latifur Rahman also served twice as president of the RU branch of Islami Chhatra Shibir during his student years.
In response to the backlash, Professor Farid Uddin posted an explanation on his personal Facebook wall, describing the incident as an unintentional mistake. He stated that his son, while playing games on his mobile phone, might have accidentally uploaded the admit card to his Facebook story.
Professor Farid also revealed that he regularly receives CVs, admit cards, and recommendation letters from job seekers or their relatives, either in person, via WhatsApp, or text messages. He acknowledged a recent interaction with the former pro-Jamaat MP during the RU Alumni Association elections, during which the MP sent him a recommendation for a job applicant.
Despite storing dozens of such documents on his office and personal mobile devices, the Pro-Vice Chancellor asserted that these recommendations do not influence the written or oral examinations for recruitment in any way.
Concluding his statement, Professor Farid expressed regret over the misunderstanding caused by the story’s publication and apologized for the unintentional error.
The incident has triggered renewed debate on social media about confidentiality breaches and possible political influence in Rajshahi University’s recruitment processes, which have faced previous allegations of nepotism and opacity.
The university authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the matter.
