Dhaka, June 22 (V7N) – In the face of ongoing student protests, the United International University (UIU) has officially withdrawn the permanent expulsion orders of students involved in the anti-vice-chancellor movement. The decision was announced in a notification signed by the university’s registrar, Dr. Md. Zulfiqur Rahman, on Saturday (June 21) night.

According to the notice, a meeting of the university's disciplinary committee was held on Saturday to review the applications for the withdrawal of expulsion. The committee decided to revoke the permanent expulsion orders of all affected students.

The students whose expulsions were suspended will now be able to continue their studies until the current Spring 2025 session. However, the university authorities warned that any future violations of the code of conduct will result in permanent expulsion.

Earlier in the day, UIU students blocked the road at Notun Bazar in Dhaka from the morning as part of their five-point demand, including the immediate withdrawal of the expulsion orders. Protesters also announced fresh programs, including a sit-in from 10 am on Sunday (June 22), with calls for a nationwide blockade and hunger strike until their demands are met.

Students have alleged that the university administration has been ignoring their justified 13-point list of demands for an extended period and resorted to expulsions to suppress their movement.

On June 2, the UIU administration had taken disciplinary action against 41 students, expelling 24 permanently and suspending 16 others temporarily.
