RAJSHAHI, March 29 (V7N) — The Rajshahi City Corporation (RASIC) has launched a special cleanliness drive in Harijan Palli, Ward No. 11, following directives from Administrator Md. Mahfuzur Rahman Riton.

At a press release issued Sunday, the administrator instructed the city’s cleanliness department to accelerate drain‑cleaning activities ahead of the monsoon season. As part of the initiative, 22 workers have been deployed to remove accumulated clay and mud from the drains in Harijan Palli.

Deputy Chief Cleaning Officer Selim Reza Ranju said the work began Saturday and is expected to be completed within a few days. He added that mud removal from other drains across the city will follow in phases.

Already, the wide drain behind Barnali, stretching from Rajarhata via Kadirganj Gorosthan, has been cleared. Officials said similar operations will continue to ensure smooth drainage and prevent waterlogging during the rainy season.

The administrator emphasized that all drains, both large and small, must be cleaned before monsoon rains begin. He urged the cooperation of all levels of cleaning staff to implement the programme effectively.

Authorities expressed confidence that the initiative will improve sanitation and reduce health risks, while enhancing the overall cleanliness of the city.
