MONGLA, Mar 18, (V7N) — Financial assistance has been provided to families of those killed in the March 12 collision between a Navy bus and a microbus near Gunai Bridge on the Mongla‑Khulna highway.
State Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Lion Dr. Sheikh Faridul Islam, handed over the aid at the Mongla Zilla Parishad Dak Bungalow on Wednesday afternoon. The Navy provided Tk 1 lakh to each family of the deceased, while the district administration distributed Tk 2.40 lakh among nine families from Mongla. In addition, Tk 50,000 was given to the family of the microbus driver from Rampal.
Officials said assistance was provided to nine families from Mongla and one from Rampal on Wednesday, with four families from Koyra, Khulna scheduled to receive support on Thursday.
The ceremony was attended by Bagerhat Additional Deputy Commissioner Anup Das, Mongla Upazila Executive Officer Sharmin Akhter Sumi, Khulna Naval Region Commander Rear Admiral AKM Zakir Hossain, Mongla Digraj Naval Base Commander Captain Mohammad Zubair Shaheen, Assistant Police Superintendent Refatul Islam, and local BNP leaders.
It may be recalled that 14 people were killed in the accident, including nine members of the family of Mongla BNP leader A. Razzak, four relatives including his newlywed daughter‑in‑law, and the microbus driver.
Authorities said the financial assistance was intended to provide immediate relief to the bereaved families, while longer‑term support measures are under consideration.
