Chattogram, Dec 13 (V7N) – Various student and political organizations staged separate protest marches in Chattogram on Friday in response to the shooting of Sharif Osman Hadi, convener and spokesperson of Inqilab Mancha in Dhaka. The demonstrations were organized under the banners of Bir Chattolar Student-Janta, Chhatra Dal, and Islami Andolan Bangladesh.

In the afternoon, Chhatra Dal held a march at Gate No. 2 of the city’s Sholoshohor area. Later in the evening, a separate rally and gathering took place, led by Zobairul Hasan Arif, the NCP parliamentary candidate for Chandgao-Bowalkhali. At around 8:30 p.m., Islami Andolan Bangladesh organized a protest march from Dewanhat to Agrabad. Earlier in the day, a procession led by Omar Faruk Sagar, Chattogram College Chhatra Dal General Secretary and coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, circled the main city streets and concluded at Biplob Udyan.

During the gatherings, speakers emphasized that Sharif Hadi is not merely an individual; the attack on him represents an assault on the country’s electoral system. They demanded the immediate arrest of the assailants and called for exemplary punishment. Protesters gave the authorities a 24-hour ultimatum to detain those responsible.

The marches also expressed outrage over a separate daytime attack on a “July warrior,” during which participants staged sit-ins on city roads, chanting slogans demanding justice. Organizers stressed the importance of safeguarding democratic rights and ensuring accountability for acts of political violence.

Local sources noted that the demonstrations drew significant participation, reflecting widespread concern over political security and election integrity in the lead-up to upcoming polls.
