Feni, July 25 (V7N) – A Bangladeshi youth, identified as Millat Hossain (21), was shot dead and another person injured by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) firing near the Baspadua border in Parshuram upazila of Feni early Thursday.

The incident occurred around 12:30 AM on July 24 in the Baspadua area, close to the international border. The deceased, Millat, was the son of Yusuf Mia of Baspadua village in the Parshuram municipal area. The injured, Afsar, son of the late Air Ahmed, hails from the same village.

According to local sources, Millat and Afsar had reportedly crossed the border pillar and entered a short distance inside Indian territory when the BSF opened fire. Locals rushed to the scene, rescuing both and initially taking them to Parshuram Upazila Health Complex, and later to Feni General Hospital. Millat was declared dead upon arrival by the on-duty doctor.

Upon receiving reports of the shooting, members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) from Feni Battalion (4 BGB) visited the area. Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain, commanding officer of the battalion, confirmed the incident.

“Two Bangladeshis, Millat and Afsar, were shot by BSF around 12:30 AM at the Baspadua border. One of them died later while being taken to hospital,” said the BGB official. “Millat’s body is currently at the Feni General Hospital morgue.”

However, family members of the victims claim that the two had gone to the border area to catch fish, not for any unlawful activities.

This incident has once again raised tensions over the repeated use of lethal force by BSF on the Bangladesh-India border, a matter frequently flagged in bilateral talks between the two nations.
