Pirojpur, June 20 (V7N) — Road communication in Indurkani upazila of Pirojpur has been disrupted after a Bailey bridge collapsed under the weight of a coal-laden truck early Friday morning. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the incident.

The accident occurred around 4 AM at Malbari area of Kalaron Sannyasi in Chandipur Union. According to local sources, the truck, carrying approximately 27 tonnes of coal, attempted to cross the weakened bridge, far exceeding the permitted weight limit of five tonnes. As a result, the structure gave way, sending the vehicle plunging into the canal below.

Locals stated that the bridge had long been in a vulnerable condition, with restrictions already placed on the movement of heavy vehicles. Ignoring these restrictions led to the collapse.

Following the incident, all vehicular movement on the important Kalaron-Sannyasi-Moralganj-Pirojpur route has been suspended, causing significant disruption for residents and transport services.

Executive Engineer of the Roads and Highways Department (RHD) in Pirojpur, Tanvir Ahmed, confirmed that an inspection team has been dispatched to the scene. "Necessary measures will be taken after assessment," he added.

Authorities are now working to determine alternative routes for communication and transport until the damaged bridge is repaired or replaced.
